Most of our current catalogue has been hand-crafted from Aso-oke fabric, (pronounced ah-SHAW-okay) which is a hand loomed cloth intricately woven predominantly by the Yoruba people of south west Nigeria, using techniques that were developed centuries ago and passed down from generation to generation.
Aso-oke, which in the English language literally translates as “top cloth” is used mainly for ceremonial garments and is therefore usually worn by the Yoruba’s on special occasions such as traditional weddings, coronations, naming ceremonies, chieftaincy installations, religious festivals and other important events.
These days, Aso-oke has become more versatile in its use and is not limited to traditional uses but has even crossed over to be a fabric of choice in cutting edge fashion and accessories. It is now regarded as popular attire that is considered trendy in different countries and world regions like Europe, United States, Brazil and Cuba.
